Salsa Dancing: Getting on your feet!
Salsa Dancing has an element of finesse to it so you may be nervous entering into a class on your first day. The likelihood is that no one else in the class will have experienced Salsa dance before and the instructors will patiently explain every move to you so that you don’t have to be nervous. Give it a few weeks of practice and the days of you accidently stepping on someone else’s toes on the dance floor will be a thing of the past.
Salsa lessons are open to anyone, beginner or advanced, all you really need to have is a smile on your face and a willingness to enter into the rhythm of the dance. Salsa dance becomes addictive for many people for a myriad of reasons. The music and the strong beats are toe-tapping and infectious, when you hear them all you want to do is getting up on the floor and dance your heart out. This being said, Salsa dance is a great way to exercise, get really fit and meet new people at the same time. As with any skill there is always room for improvement and Salsa provides constant challenges for you while still remaining fun to do.
Most Salsa classes are run upon a pay as you go scheme so you can try it out as often as you want without having to make any strict commitment, however most of the classes do follow a learning plan so if you miss weeks you may miss steps. Those of you fantasizing about Antonio Banderas - esque figure whisking you around the dance floor, ala Strictly Ballroom may be disappointed to know that Salsa Dancing is structured very differently to ballroom dancing, which is much more rigid and entirely pre choreographed. Part of the excitement of salsa is that you never quite know what way or direction your partner is going to move you next. You simply have to follow their lead.
The profound effect that Salsa dancing may have on you may surprise you, as will the fun you can have while learning it.
